We are heartbroken by the tragic shooting of Charlie Kirk.
This tragedy represents everything we work against at Bipartisan Bridges. When political opponents become dehumanized enemies rather than fellow Americans with differences in opinion, we create the conditions where some feel justified in taking extreme action.
In this moment of profound grief and shock, we as Americans face a moment in history that demands we choose between letting violence fracture us further or standing unified against acts of political violence.
We call on all Americans, regardless of political affiliation, to condemn this violence unequivocally. This is not a moment for partisan blame or inflammatory rhetoric. This is a moment to remember that behind every political figure is a human being: a person with a family, hopes, and dreams.
While the world processes this loss, we must remember that Charlie Kirk's wife and young children are grieving a shocking and unimaginable loss. Anything posted online during this time will likely be seen by them. We urge all Americans to show compassion and restraint in their words, in order to honor their pain rather than adding to it.
Political violence attacks the foundation of democracy itself. Democracy survives only when citizens believe their voices matter through legitimate channels and when they retain enough respect for fellow Americans to engage in good faith rather than resort to violence.
Our response cannot be more division.
Our prayers are with the Kirk family during this devastating time.
